Out-of-State Licensure

Question: I am a CPA from another state who works in industry in California. I met the other state's requirements for licensing which include two years experience with a CPA firm showing knowledge of audits. Do I qualify to transfer my license under the new law?

Response: You need to check with the California Board of Accountancy on reciprocity questions. There may be some issues regarding experience, education and the CPA exam that are unique to your situation and you would need to work with the CBA. However, if out-of-state experience and out-of-state CPA exam issues are not a problem, and you were applying for a CPA license in California as a brand new candidate, you seem to meet the requirements under the new law if you have a bachelor's degree with 24 units in accounting and 24 units in business, but you need to check with the CBA for a definite answer on this one.
